It is a lovely November day in New York City, all crisp and clear and sunny and cold as all get out. Alexa herself is wearing a warm fleece jacket, bright red, and is thankful that central heating's been invented.

Alexa's made sure to pick a window seat when she walks into the McDonald's, so May can see her (and her bright red jacket!) easily. She's a liiiittle worried about her alt-sis getting to the right place because, quite unbeknownst to her, another set of Golden Arches went up just a block away. So, she'll just wait. And tap her fingers on the table. And doodle on a napkin. And stare out a window. Etc. Etc.

Hey guys, back from New York. Hope everyone had a nice Thankgivings, blah blah blah.

Oh, and here's some adorable news- Kade and Rissa are standing up/trying to talk. At four months. See, that's why having quarter-deific kids to look after rocks, because you get to fast-forward through the diaper stage. Kade's first word was "Dada" and Rissa's first word was "the". Come on, you know that's adorable. (And they're calling me Mama. How cool is that?)

Okay, so, I talked to Dad and Matt about... everything. And they talked to me, and there was a lot of talking involved, and... I'm ready to stop hanging onto the guilt. I'm going to fix what I can and deal with it the best way I know how, and then move on.

Rory: *has been looking for Alexa- she's been gone for a while*
Rory: *passes the alley, does a double-take, and comes in*
Alexa: *not paying attention, playing with one of the nice bound-up-people. shiny shiny blood on the knife.*
Rory: *quietly, but not quite horrifiedly* Alexa?
Alexa: *head comes up, but doesn't quite turn around* Hey, didn't hear you sneak up. *at least this time she's trying to keep her identity secret- black stuff is smeared on her face, though there's no small amount of red mixed in with it*
Rory: That would be because of the aforementioned sneaking.
Rory: What's going on?
Alexa: *small wicked grin* Just having fun. *goes back to cutting one of the people, who just sorta gives a tired groan*
Rory: *pulls out a knife of his own and walks over*
Alexa: *softly* It's pretty, isn't it?
Rory: No. It's horrible. *starts cutting the one she's not working on free*
Alexa: It is. That's what makes it pretty. *the vocal chords of the person she's working on hit a weird octave, and a shiver goes down her spine* See? It's just... *shakes head* God. Beautiful.
Rory: *turns and aims a punch at her with his knifeless hand* Stop it, 'Lexa. For... fuck's sake. I can't take this.
Alexa: *dodges, yay spider-sense* *falls back into a crouch, bloody knife out. the weird, unnatural grin is still on her face* It's not so bad once you get used to it. It's really rather... *smirk, gestures with blade to the tied-up veryverycut person* Well, there you have it.
Rory: Alexa, I promised to love you, but I will hurt you badly if you keep doing this.
Alexa: *eyes narrow* It's not your responsibility, Rory. Get over it.
Rory: How is it not my responsibility? I love you. You're hurting yourself and everyone you're in contact with.
Alexa: I'm not the one bleeding on the ground, in case you haven't noticed. *shifts away slightly, eyes dart to her victim*
Rory: *growl* You're the one causing the bleeding on the ground.
Alexa: *grin* I am. You shouldn't have let me do all that to Diane, else I wouldn't have found out how much I like it.
Rory: You're right.
Rory: *starts untying the tied-up person*
Alexa: *steps forward, knife glinting* Mine.
Rory: *keeps untying*
Alexa: *grits teeth, glares at Rory, only just has enough morals left in her to keep from going after him- as such, she forces herself to turn away*
Rory: *finishes the untying* These lovely people and I are going to the hospital. When I see you again, we're going to talk.
Alexa: Whatever.
Alexa: *heads over to the wall and starts climbing up, not looking back at him*
Rory: *teleports the people to the hospital*
Doctor: ....what the hell happened to these people? *rushes over*
Rory: Found them in an alley. Tortured.
Doctor: You know how long, or with what? *starts ordering nurses around*
Rory: No idea how long.
Doctor: Okay, we'll take care of them. Thank you. *grim, turns away for a second to yell for something*

Alexa: *is... somewhere on a rooftop in Jump! not dumb enough to go home, nooo*
Rory: *closes his eyes, deep breathing, concentrates*

Alexa: *turns back to him, blinking* I wouldn't- *cuts herself off, because she just realizes that she doesn't know that* Rory, you can't.
Rory: *face crumpled, looks like he's in pain* I told you. Seeing you like this is killing me.
Alexa: *blinks some more, a tremor entering her voice* Rory, Rory, don't- *whisper* It's how I am now. I can't do anything about it. This... this is me.
Rory: I know, Alexa. There's not a damn thing I can do to stop you. It hurts so much, you look like Alexa and you sound like Alexa, but you're insane. You're twisted. I can't deal with it.
Alexa: I'm not! I'm not, I'm not, I swear to God I'm the same person- *runs a hand through her hair, ignoring the red streaks in it, and starts breathing raggedly* You- can't- do this- not to me....
Alexa: ....*very very very quiet* I love you. Please.
Rory: I love you too. It just feels like you're fucking ripping my heart out of my chest when you... play. Or laugh about it. I don't want to stop seeing you and I don't want you out of my life, but right now I just can't take it anymore. You're hurting everyone you love, Alexa.
Alexa: *starts trembling violently, turns away and rubs her face* I can't- I don't want- *deep breath, voice drops away to mutters*
Rory: I love you. I just... ohgod. *shakes his head*
Alexa: *starts walking away to the edge of the roof, eyes burning*
Rory: *watches her* I'm sorry.
Alexa: *she doesn't say anything as she hold out her wrist. there's a faint thwip and the building opposite has a line of webbing on it. when she speaks, her voice sounds a little dazed* I. Uh. Don't know what'll happen w-when you see me next. Um. But I think... think I still wouldn't do anything... *shakes her head, trying to clear it* Christ.
Rory: I hope not. I want to believe you can fight this thing, but you aren't even trying.
Rory: *doesn't sound angry, just... very, very sad*
Alexa: *bites lip, looks over pleadingly one last time*

Rory's going to sulk and stay out whining about how much he fails at life? Fine. But that doesn't mean that Alexa's going to just stay at their apartment and wait for him to come home. On the contrary, rather, because-

"-that's just not my style at allll," she chuckles, looking herself over in the mirror. Black is the order of the night- black cargoes, black tank top, black smudge smeared over her features. Alexa's realized even if she's not a hero anymore, she still has an identity to protect. Protect from what, she's not so sure of, but whatever. Dressing up is fun, and she'll be damned before she puts on that suit again.

She fastens a thick, sturdy belt around her waist, replacing the makeshift pouch she'd had in the Nexus the other night. Onto the belt gets strapped her knife, cleaned and honed and terrifically sharp; a smaller blade, serrated and dark from years of rust; and her newly-procured plasma fusion cutter. (Not that she knows exactly what that last item was, only that the man who'd given it to her seemed the type of person to know about exceedingly painful weaponry, and she's game for trying anything out once.)

Her eyes flit to a nearby dresser, on which is a business card. She's been thinking about it almost nonstop since it'd been handed to her. What she'd seen- what that man had promised her- sent chills racing up her spine. 'When you get bored with them-'

She checks herself over one last time, then walks over to the window and opens it. A few minutes later she's up on the roof, looking over Jump City and all its inhabitants settling in for the night. Not as big as New York, no. But still pretty big. Still a lot of people. No heroes...

Slowly, a predatory grin spreads across her face. The man with the business card hasn't left her mind- far from it- but somehow?

She doesn't think she'll be getting bored anytime soon.

Okay, so maybe 180 degrees was stretching it. Maybe it's more like 130 or 145 or whatever. Because when Gina showed up? I felt almost back to normal.

And then I got over it and am back to new-normal. At least, I'm assuming I am, because old-normal wouldn't have me wanting to do what I'm going to do to that asshole.

But in the meantime, I don't know. She's- honestly, she's annoying to have around, but I feel for her. Or I did earlier, and Rory's intent on her staying with us until we can get her help. Y'know, the real kind, with doctors and medicine and crap.

God, I am so in over my head right now. Sucks monkey balls that I can't go for help without alerting him. And just shoving her off in a mental ward seems ~~what we should have done in the first place~~ a bad idea to Rory.
